FAO parents and carers of children in Y4, Y5 and Y6 - Sex & Relationships Education17 June 2026 (by admin) |
Dear Parents and Carers of Children in Key Stage 2
Sex and Relationships Education (S.R.E)
Later this half term, the children in years 4 to 6 will be covering Sex and Relationships Education in their RSHE lessons.
The topics covered in year 4 will be: puberty, how to keep clean, developing emotions and the menstruation cycle. Children in years 5 and 6 will also answer the question ‘How do humans make babies?’
At Reignhead, we always aim to work in partnership with parents and so have planned to hold an informal drop-in session on 22.06.26 from 3:45 - 5pm so that you can learn more about the S.R.E. curriculum at our school. Please note, this drop-in session is for parents only.
During these drop-in sessions, teachers will be available to explain what your child will be taught during S.R.E. lessons and you will be able to look at the learning resources we use in school. You will also have the opportunity to raise any questions or concerns you have with your child’s teacher.
We are committed to providing all our children with an effective Sex and Relationships Education so that we can help our children build happy, healthy relationships both now and in their adult lives. From past experience we know that S.R.E. can help children make sense of the many different messages they receive about sex and relationships from television, from other children, and from what they see around them in their families and neighbourhoods. The planned sessions provide a calm, safe environment where the children can ask questions and resolve anxieties.
Parents do, however, have the right to withdraw their child from some aspects of these sessions. If you choose to do so, please speak to your child’s teacher and then let us know in writing by Tuesday 23rd June.
Kind regards,
Mrs Dunn, Mrs Craig and Mrs Wormleighton
