Adverse Weather

8 January 2026 (by admin)

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you will be aware there are reports of potential significant snow arriving this evening/overnight. Forecasts vary and keep changing from rain to sleet to heavy snow, therefore it is difficult to predict what will be happening and thereby have a response at this stage. If it as bad as some forecasts predict then this could affect our opening tomorrow. In light of this, please refer to the information below as a reminder of our procedures:

  • School closure notification the night before - if the decision is taken to close the school tonight for the following day, a message will go on the APP and the website.
  • School closure in the morning before school starts - staff will be on site at 6am in the morning assessing the situation. If the school is to close then a message will go on the APP and website by 7am.
  • School opening late to enable time to prepare the site and give additional travelling time - if the decision is to open late, we will ask children to arrive after 10am. If this is the case a message will go on the APP and the website.
  • Heavy snow during the school day - this may mean that in the interest of the safety of parents having to make a journey to school to collect pupils and for staff members who may need to make a significant journey home, we may need to close the school during the day. In this instance a message will go on the APP and the website as soon as a decision has been made.
  • School open as normal - the assumption should always be that school is open as normal unless the APP/ website notification says otherwise.

Whatever the circumstances, the decision to close the school, alter start times or close school during the day is never taken lightly and will always be made in the best interests of the health and safety of the pupils, parents and staff.

The decision to close is always a joint decision made with Beighton Nursery and Infant School and Brookhouse Junior School.

Thank you for your continued support for the school and our children.
