Supporting Your Child’s Learning with Healthy, Low-Sugar Breakfasts and Packed Lunches25 November 2025 (by admin) |
Dear Parents and Carers,
At Reignhead Primary School, we are committed to supporting every child’s learning and well-being. One important factor that significantly impacts children’s ability to concentrate, engage, and succeed at school is nutrition—starting with what they eat for breakfast and in their packed lunches.
A healthy, low-sugar breakfast is crucial for maintaining steady energy levels and focus throughout the school day. We have noticed that some children come to school without having eaten or with breakfasts high in sugar, which can cause rapid energy spikes followed by crashes. These fluctuations can affect attention, behaviour, and learning progress, especially for children who need extra support. Encouraging your child to have a balanced breakfast with minimal added sugars helps them start the day ready to learn and develop positively.
Similarly, packed lunches play a vital role in sustaining children’s energy and concentration. Many packed lunches contain processed foods and sugary snacks that lead to sugar highs and lows, which can disrupt learning and behaviour. We ask that you provide nutritious lunches that include fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and protein to help your child maintain steady energy and support their cognitive function throughout the day.
Please remember that sweets and chocolate bars are not allowed in school as part of our commitment to promoting healthy eating habits for all pupils. This helps create an environment where every child can thrive and be ready to learn.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us create the best possible learning environment for your children.
Best wishes,
Caroline Fairfax
