School Curriculum
Our children will tell you that at Reignhead we constantly strive to be the very best school that we can be.
Everyone remembers their time at primary school, and at Reignhead we make sure that each and every Reignhead child has a great many wonderful and memorable experiences that will stay with them throughout their lives. At Reignhead, your child could play for one of our sports teams, sing with our choir, take part in Reignhead Rocks, be a Sports Leader or a School Librarian. From Year 1 to Year 6, children also have the chance to represent their class as School Councillors or Eco-Warriors. Being fully involved in school life and understanding the importance of taking responsibility are what being a Reignhead pupil is all about! As a school, our commitment to outdoor learning is extremely important to us and the children of Reignhead talk enthusiastically about the learning that takes place in our very own woodland or during visits to the school allotment. We take pride in our school grounds and outdoor facilities as we know that they are some of the best in Sheffield! Unusually for a primary school, we also provide the opportunity for each Reignhead child to take part in a total of three residential visits. These take place in years 2, 4 and 6 and are viewed as an important part of our curriculum by staff, parents and of course, the children. Within the school day, we are proud of the learning opportunities we provide within our rich, broad balanced and creative curriculum. The children are immersed in engaging cross curricular topics such as Perfect Pets, Moon Zoom, Mighty Metals and Gallery Rebels! More importantly, we know the children enjoy and learn from their topics because we ask them. This means that as well as following the National Curriculum, we ensure we are following the children’s own interests, thus creating even greater engagement with their learning. Series of lessons are carefully planned to ensure children develop the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to enjoy learning and succeed at school and in the future. Our aim is to develop each and every child to their full potential in order that they are ready for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life in modern Britain and the wider world. Spiritual, moral, cultural and personal well-being are extremely important to us and we follow a rigorous PSHE curriculum where key ideas are introduced and developed as your child progresses though school. Through these lessons, children learn about health, how to keep themselves safe (both online and in the real world) and how to manage feelings and friendships; they are also taught to respect differences and what it means to be a global citizen. Additional PSHE learning takes place through assemblies, topic work, curriculum days, planned intervention programmes and of course the ethos of the school. At Reignhead, we believe we are successful in educating and nurturing the ‘whole child’ – we could not do this without the support and enthusiasm of parents and carers. There are numerous opportunities for parents to be involved in school life and their child's learning. The school day starts at 8am with a Breakfast Club for families held in our cheerful dining hall. Parents and carers are also warmly welcomed to our Learning Together sessions and our Sharing Assemblies. These are always extremely well attended and help us to make sure that we are more than just a school – we are a learning community. |
